Students make buddies for life
Sacred Heart of Jesus School prides itself with providing a nurturing academic atmosphere for all students.
One way we do this is by the ever successful Buddy program. Our younger students, specifically PreK to 2nd grade, are paired up with a 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grade student for the year. The role of the buddy is to escort their student to and from weekly Mass, as well as assist them during Mass. At various times throughout the year, buddies help out with craft and reading activities or assist during classroom parties.
By the end of the year, the paired buddies have formed a strong bond and a great friendship. Throughout the year they have shared common interests, told jokes, gave fist bumps, high fives and hugs. The 8th grade buddies are treated to a letter of appreciation written by their younger buddy, that is read aloud at the 8th grade school Mass.
We understand the importance of helping the younger students feel comfortable and confident about coming to school, so they can put forth their best effort. We also understand the importance of instilling independence, courtesy and a helpful spirit in the older students.
Both students benefit by the Buddy program in many ways. They learn to develop great character traits and are helpful towards other people. Students are known to have moved on to high schools or even college, and they still remember their Sacred Heart of Jesus School buddy. The kids really do make buddies for life!
This is just one of the many programs we offer at Sacred Heart of Jesus School that makes us unique. Why not give us a call to learn more about our school? We would love to give you a tour!
