Sacred Heart shares the meaning of Christmas

Throughout the Christmas season, we show what Christmas is all about.

Here at Sacred Heart of Jesus School, we are involved in many activities that engage our students and remind them of the true meaning of Christmas. We are proud of our ability to share our talents and treasures with others who are in need. The staff, students and families truly feel the Spirit of the Christmas season, and are eager to spread that Spirit with others every day. Here are a few of the activities and ministries we are involved in.

Prison Ministry Cookie Drive
Each year, our own Deacon Roger visits the inmates of the county jail and distributes Christmas cookies. The families of Sacred Heart School bake an extra dozen Christmas cookies, and sends them to Deacon to share. Each year Deacon Roger is able to distribute over 40 dozen cookies which are much appreciated by the inmates of the jail. What a great way to pass along a little Christmas cheer to those going through a hard time in their life.

St. Vincent de Paul Food Drive
This is always a huge success year over year at Sacred Heart of Jesus School! It may be due to a little friendly competition between classes, along with generous hearts! This two week long food drive is anticipated, and much needed by the St. Vincent de Paul Society to help restock their shelves. This December, we were able to donate 6,200 items collected from our big-hearted school families and staff members! The shelves looked full again at the conclusion of this very important food campaign.

It is our duty and our mission to reach out to others, not just at this time of the year but all year long. It is tradition at Sacred Heart to sponsor school families in need during the Christmas season, and help make their holiday brighter. This year we sponsored six anonymous families from our school and parish during the Christmas Season. Ornaments are placed on a Christmas tree with items needed. Our students, families and staff remove an ornament with plans to purchase that item. The items are then wrapped and returned back to the school for distribution before Christmas. As is every year, not one ornament is left on the tree as every item is purchased by generous people. A true testament to selfless giving at its finest!

8th Grade Christmas Play
The 8th grade class brainstorms, writes, casts, and performs a Christmas play that is performed on stage at a local theatre. This is considered our “Broadway moment” that the entire school and parish community comes out to watch and enjoy. The production is put on primarily by the 8th graders with the rest of the classes sprinkled in with musical numbers. This event is really anticipated by everyone and it never disappoints! This year’s production was titled, “The Wizard of Clause.” At the end of each performance, the true meaning of Christmas is displayed and remembered.

Singing Hearts Choir
Our student choir, called the Singing Hearts, are busy at this time of year performing at nursing homes, community festivals and Christmas luncheons. They also perform with the Beginning Violins and Strings, at a Christmas concert. Spreading music and good cheer with their beautiful voices!

These are just a few examples of all that goes on at Sacred Heart of Jesus school at this time of year. We try to always share the meaning of Christmas with everyone we meet. Especially those in most need of our help, in lifting their spirits and hearts to God.
