It’s a great time to be a third grader

We have many exciting events throughout the year that the third graders partake in.

Here are a few of the things the third graders at Sacred Heart of Jesus School enjoy!

In the fall, students get to pick out a book that interests them and read it. Once they complete the book, they decorate a pumpkin as the main character in the book they chose. It is fun to see all the transformed pumpkins into book characters. Have you ever seen a Yoda pumpkin or a Gandalf the Great pumpkin? The third graders really show off their creative side with this pumpkin book project!

All throughout the year, they practice their multiplication facts. Every time the students complete a segment, they get to add an ice cream ingredient to their Multiplication Sundaes. If the student gets all the ingredients of the sundae, at the end of the year they get to build their very own ice cream sundae to enjoy! This is a great way to emphasize the importance of multiplication and boosts their enthusiasm to try their hardest.

In November, for All Saints Day, each third grade student dresses as a saint of his/her choosing. Not only do they dress the part of their saint, but they also research and write about how their saint lived, and why they were canonized as a saint.

Third graders are introduced to the value of money and the concept of budgeting. Each week, they get to shop at a store where they spend the “dollars” they earn throughout the week. If they do a good deed, or if they carry out a task they have during the week, they are then paid with “teacher bucks.” The store is a big hit with the kids since they actually buy real items donated by teachers and families!

In third grade the students get to enjoy two field trips. One of the field trips is a walking history of Wadsworth. They explore the Johnson House and cemetery, all the while learning about Wadsworth’s great historical past. The end of the year is culminated by a trip to the Cleveland Zoo where the third graders learn about animal habitats and complete a scavenger hunt. The field trips are certainly a bonus to the already exciting adventures these third graders look forward to!

It’s a great time to be a third grader! The year is filled with jam-packed excitement that is sure to create lifelong memories! If you have questions about our school, please contact us. We would love to hear from you!
