Academics

PrintSacred Heart of Jesus School teaches children from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. We offer an extended learning program (ELP) for gifted students in grades 3 through 8. At a time when many school districts are eliminating courses for budgetary reasons, we continue to offer weekly instruction in French, Spanish, Art, Music, Computer Education and Physical Education for all grades.

Embracing Technology

Our teachers are trained to use technology in the classroom. We have 27 Dell computers in our computer lab. Each classroom has three computers and a laptop, and students have access to individual laptops and 60 iPads. Throughout the school, smartboards – the latest technological teaching aid – are being used every day.

Our commitment to educating children is reflected in the many special services we offer. Title I and SLD tutors, intervention specialists, speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy and psychological services are available to our students.

Each year our 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th grade students take the Iowa Test of Basic Skills, and we are pleased to report that our students score considerably higher than their grade level nationally.

Graduates of Sacred Heart of Jesus School attend Catholic or public high schools and often excel in academics and sports. Many have been valedictorians, National Merit Finalists, Semi-finalists and Commended Scholars. Athletes have won individual and team state championships with their high school teams.
